HEART Mission Statement

The mission of the Humane Evacuation Animal Rescue Team (HEART) is to provide assistance in times of emergency/disasters, whether man-made or natural, rescuing animals, setting up and operating emergency animal shelters when requested by the appropriate authority having jurisdiction.

HEART also works to educate the public regarding emergency preparedness for all animals within their care.



Andrus Fire Shelter

Level 3 evacuations were issued on July 5 for homes endangered by the Andrus Fire, 3 miles west of Cheney, WA. 

Spokane County Emergency Management and HEART opened and operated an emergency animal shelter at the Spokane County Fairgrounds.

Several animals were cared for by HEART Volunteers and the animal owners.  Evacuated animals included horses, goats, chickens, and bunnies.
